To ensure that students have the opportunity to become well-rounded, socially responsible members of their communities, our students participate in many special programs and extra-curricular activities, such as:
Students participate in community service projects throughout the school year like, reading poetry to the members of the East Oakland Senior Center
The staff, family, students and community come together and participate in literacy activities. Local authors and volunteers come and read their published books.
School Events and Programs
Students perform and participate in programs, such as: The Harvest Fest, The Annual Christmas Program/Concert, The Annual Multi-Cultural Commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., The Black History Program and The Spring Concert.
Students enhance their oratorical speaking through city-wide competition between students in both public schools and private schools.
Financial literacy has been deemed a necessary component in addressing poverty and increasing wealth. At the Dr. Herbert Guice Christian Academy, we have instituted a school savings program that has allowed the students to have their own savings account and, on a weekly basis, deposit money. This program gives students hands-on lessons about economics and how to handle money responsibly. By participating in the Academy Banking Program, students have the opportunity to develop healthy financial habits that can last a lifetime. Participating students learn responsibility, discipline, consistency, money management and how to set financial goals. This program also enables teachers to integrate Math with Social Science and Literature into the curriculum.
These activities help to strengthen their understanding of community, christianity, giving, and learning. Our goal is to broaden their experiences, and also, teaching them to live a purpose filled life of service and growth.
In addition to these activities, we also have several clubs and organizations that students and their families can participate in.
The Drill Team participates in various parades that are hosted in the Oakland Area. The students learn team-building skills and they contribute to school and community spirit.
The Drum Line Team gives students an opportunity to enhance their music skills and allows them an opportunity to participate in various parades that are hosted in the Oakland Area.
